The Nirbhoy Gram Campaign is endorsed by five stalwarts. They are Shri. Anna Hazare, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Pandit Jasraj, Smt. Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee and Ms. Mahasweta Devi. Within the span of one month, these five legends have blessed Nirbhoy Gram Campaign and pledged to give their support.
Nirbhoy Gram is the first of its kind philanthropic initiative in Malda district of West Bengal with an aim to empower 3000 villages and spread the ideals of peace, non-violence and fearless existence. It primarily focuses on safety and security of women and children. The initiative has been envisioned as a people’s movement for safety, security and justice at the grassroot.
According to Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, “Nirbhoy Gram is a unique and unprecedented movement with an aim to empower villagers of India towards their safety and security of women and girls. This campaign aims to empower most backward women and bring them at par with mainline population by providing them with an equal status. I can say with conviction that Nirbhoy Gram Initiative will certainly show the path of justice at the grassroot.”
The campaign has initiated Nirbhoy Gram Ambassadors Program with an aim to promote the issues concerning Malda and focus it as a centre of activity in the national stage. All the Nirbhoy Gram Ambassadors have an exceptional background and occupy the highest pedestal and stature among the citizens of India.
Nirbhoy Gram Ambassador Smt. Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee shared her happiness in her endorsement, “I feel it is a moment of delight for me to be an Ambassador for Peace of Nirbhoy Gram Initiative. I am deeply touched by the principles and objectives of Nirbhoy Gram. I feel that the concept of Nirbhoy Gram is a true inheritance from Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of Gram Swaraj. Nirbhoy Gram is an instrument to realize Gandhi’s Gram Swaraj.”
Presently, Malda stands inconspicuous and without any recognition. It is a neglected border area with hardly any mention in spite of facing numerous challenges. The villages of Malda are backward. Support and endorsement by prominent citizens will give a voice to people of Malda and compel the decision makers to direct their attention towards the much pending focus on safety and security of women and young girls. In this regard, Mahasweta Devi shared, “I am very happy that this movement has taken off in Malda and not in any metro city. Such underrepresented areas need urgent attention. Nirbhoy Gram’s active campaign to reach to the most neglected tribal women residing at Bangladesh border will empower them for their rights and duties. The deep-rooted philosophy of this campaign is to empower the most backward sections of our society, particularly women, by assuring them dignity and esteem. My blessings are always with this initiative to see it grow everyday.”
Anna Hazare stated, “Nirbhoy Gram is an unparalleled and exceptional step towards the empowerment of the villages of India, especially women, by encouraging them to become Nirbhoy (Fearless). The key objective of Nirbhoy Gram Campaign is to ensure safety and security of women and young children. This movement calls upon the people of rural India to stand and identify as Nirbhoy (Fearless) and claim their rights against deprivation and exploitation.”
Music legend Pandit Jasraj stated in his endorsement, “The main focus of Nirbhoy Gram is to empower villages of India to ensure safety and security of women and young girls. I endorse and support the goals of Nirbhoy Gram and encourage the people of India to adopt the means to achieve these goals. Be Nirbhoy (Fearless).”
