Reacting to the SC verdict, eminent Women’s Rights Activist Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury said, rape and murder of Nirbhaya unpardonable offence. She complemented SC for its verdict. Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury (Nirbhoy Didi) was made Chairperson of the Special Task Force on Rape, Trafficking and Violence against Women, constituted by the Government in the year 2012.

Leading Women’s Rights Activist, Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury upheld the SC Verdict on Nirbhaya pronounced this afternoon. It is pertinent to mention that Ms.Mitra Chaudhury was at the helm of affairs soon after Nirbhaya’s rape and murder. She was chairperson of the Special Task Force which was constituted by the government to sphere-head actions against erring individuals. Later, Sreerupa resigned from this post on a note of sadness due to tragic events which were unfolding in India in the year 2012 to 2014. Sreerupa later founded a powerful women’s safety campaign involving 3000 villages and 5 million people in the remote land of Malda, in the interiors of Bangladesh border falling in West Bengal. “Nirbhaya is a symbolic movement for women’s safety”, says Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury.

Soon she was adored by the villagers as Nirbhoy Didi (fearless sister). She started Nirbhoy Gram campaign to awaken the conscience of youth and young girls in this interior district, riddled with heinous crimes against women and girl child. It is notable to mention that Sreerupa severed her political linkage with Ms.Mamta Banerjee in 2015 due to the gangrape of Mother Superior of the famous Jesus and Merry Convent in West Bengal. She organised 100 Peace Prayers across the nation till the culprits were nabbed. Sreerupa is known for her fearless actions concerning women’s rescue and rehabilitation. She dedicated 25 years of her life rescuing traumatized women from the street.

“Let the soul of Nirbhaya rest in peace”, says Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury.
